* *DUTIES:* Ability to operate a cash register, accurately make change, responsible cash handling and prepare deposits as needed.

Receives trash and recyclables from customers and assists with the unloading and placing in appropriate dumpsters as needed.
Rejects inappropriate items such as hazardous chemicals and explains requirements to customers, including which items are recyclable and those which are not recyclable at the present time.
Operates trash compactor and monitors all containers and reports daily to the Operations Manager when containers are full.
Locks/unlocks gates and maintains grounds – mowing, weed eating, sweeping, picking up litter daily, hosing ground under compactor, clearing walkways, spreading salt, and shoveling/sweeping snow as needed in winter.
Reports equipment malfunctions to the Operations Manager.
All other duties assigned by your supervisor.
*JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:* High school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to be sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to quickly build a professional relationship with customers and provide excellent customer service.
Comply with safety attire: glove, safety eyewear, and high visibility shirt/vest.
Working knowledge of acceptable materials and proper methods of preparing them for recycling.
Working knowledge of safety practices and procedures with ability to take proper precautions and ensure safety of self and others.
Ability to regularly work weekend and evening hours.
Offers assistance to other staff as workload permits.
*RESPONSIBILITY:* Employee performs standard, recurring duties according to a flexible, customary routine, with priorities determined primarily by the supervisor.
Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions/ guidelines, compliance with Department policies and procedures, and appropriate service to the public.
Errors in employees' work are usually prevented and detected through standard bookkeeping checks.
Undetected errors may result in loss of time for correction.
*PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:* Employee maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments and the public for the purpose of giving and receiving information.
Employee reports to Operations Manager.
*PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:* Employee performs a majority of duties in heavy equipment and outdoors, and are frequently exposed to normal hazards associated with maintaining a landfill and related equipment, such as machinery, traffic, noise, grease, dirt, dust, vehicle fumes, extreme temperature and inclement weather.
Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others.
Must have the ability to physically perform assigned duties, including driving for long periods, close and far vision, depth perception, hearing sounds/communication, handling/grasping/fingering objects, and walking on uneven terrain, lifting/carrying ;objects weighing 50 pounds or less, standing, reaching, bending, and crouching/kneeling.
